HELLO, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS!

We’re long-time Oakland residents and brand-new tenants of the sunny storefront at 6028 College Ave. We’ve come to believe that local spaces —and the relationships that grow within them—are a real and active counter to the turmoil and disconnection of modern life.

Local Economy is our attempt to create a community resilience hub. The space is supported by members who pay monthly dues that give them full access to the space when it is open, first dibs on event tickets, and a bundle of fun stuff. Those dues also help keep the space open and thriving for the larger community, so that our programs can be accessible and inclusive.

We’ll be open during the day Wednesday to Saturday, as well as for a variety of early evening events ranging from liberation ecology workshops to worldbuilding game sessions to author readings with our neighbors, East Bay Booksellers. The coffee microroaster Painted Leopard will have an outpost inside the shop, and we’ll have a small selection of retail goods from independent makers.

Check out the Coming Attractions and consider becoming a member, or just stop by and say hello.

Memberships are the financial core of Local Economy. In today's Oakland, our idea is to build a community that directly supports the existence of this third space. You can see the rundown of our events and the FAQ.

Painted Leopard is a microroaster in Oakland sourcing coffee from the founders’ family’s hometown near Monte Cacahuatique in Morazán, El Salvador.

They’re going to be popping up inside Local Economy.
